چکیده

In this work, the results are presented of a 3D numerical magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulation of direct current (DC) electromagnetic pump for liquid aluminum at large Reynolds number under externally imposed non-uniform magnetic field. The formulation of the magneto hydrodynamic model has been derived from the Reynolds-Averaged NavierStokes equations with standard k-ε turbulence model coupled with the Maxwell equations for Newtonian incompressible fluid. These equations are solved simultaneously in the finite element environment COMSOL 3.4a. A direct electrical current is applied to a pair of electrodes, placed orthogonally to the magnetic field, exerting the Lorentz force driving the molten metal through a flat rectangular channel. Several pumping operation conditions are applied to study the M deformations of the initial flow velocity profile in the magnetic field region.

Electromagnetic DC Pump of Liquid Aluminium: Computer Simulation and Experimental Study

Results are presented of 3D numerical magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulation of electromagnetic DC pump for both laminar and turbulent metal flow under an externally imposed strongly non-uniform magnetic field. Numerous MHD flow cases were simulated using finite element method and the results of five typical examples are summarized here, including one example of laminar brake flow, one example o...

Analysis and Design of Electromagnetic Pump

Liquid metal loops are used for heat removal and for the study of certain magnetofluidic phenomenon like MHD (Magneto-Hydro Dynamic) effects. These loops operate at high temperatures and carry fluids that are invariably toxic in nature. To ensure the purity of fluid in a closed loop application, non-intrusive electromagnetic pumps are used. We have designed and analyzed a prototype electromagne...

Numerical Modelling of the Coupling Electromagnetic- Hydrodynamic Equations of an Annular Induction Mhd Pump

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) is the study of the interaction of electrically conducting fluids and electromagnetic fields. This paper presents the numerical modelling of the coupling electromagnetichydrodynamic phenomena using the Finite volume Method (FVM) in cylindrical coordinate and the stream vorticity formulation ξ, ψ in two-dimensional in an annular induction MHD pump. The magnetic indu...

Study of Chemically Reactive Flow and Heat Transfer in the Presence of a Uniform Magnetic Field

The effects of chemical reaction, thermal stratification, Soret and Dufour numbers on magneto-hydrodynamic free convective heat and mass transfer of a viscous, incompressible, and electrically conducting fluid on a vertical stretching surface embedded in a saturated porous medium are presented. A similarity transform is used to reduce the governing partial differential equations into a syste...

Numerical Study of turbulent free convection of liquid metal with constant and variable properties in the presence of magnetic field

In this research, turbulent MHD convection of liquid metal with constant and variable properties is investigated numerically. The finite volume method is applied to model the fluid flow and natural convection heat transfer in a square cavity. The fluid flow and heat transfer were simulated and compared for two cases constant and variable properties. It is observed that for the case variable pro...
